San Diego is home to one of the world’s greatest healing
centers. Naval Medical Center San Diego, Balboa Hospital,
is the west coast’s treatment and recovery destination for
severely injured service men and women.
The transition from recovery to rehabilitation can only go
so far in a hospital setting. Returning to the community is
the final stage of treatment.
Facing skyrocketing costs and a lack of accessible housing,
many severely disabled veterans are forced to leave San
Diego. Often they forego needed treatments and the
camaraderie of their fellows. Isolation and neglect are
long-term prices of their sacrifice.
In answer to the call,
Community Catalysts Veterans Transitional Services
was created.
Serving combat-wounded and disabled service members from
six-months before discharge and up to two-years afterwards,
CC-VTS will provide affordable, accessible community-based
housing, vocational, and daily-living services.
We have already placed seven individuals at the Smart
Corner Development at 1080 Park Blvd.
