Participants' Obligations

Each participant is expected to provide as much of his/her own support as is reasonable. A financial planner will meet with each participant on a regular basis to assist in creating a budget that will help the individual successfully transition into the community.

ACTIVE DUTY – Active duty service members receive a basic housing allowance for off-base, non-military housing. The active duty program participant’s BHA would be paid to the program. Program participants would not be required to pay first/last month’s rent or a security deposit.

The program would provide housing accommodations including rent, utilities, furniture, utensils, and linens. In most cases, non-family participants would share an apartment with a roommate.

DISCHARGED VETERANS – Once discharged, service members no longer receive a basic housing allowance and VA benefits can take months to determine. Each participant’s ability to pay would be assessed individually depending on his/her status and program or rental fees would be charged on an “ability” basis.

FAMILIES – Financial participation for program participants with families would be based on their active duty status as with individual participants. Each family’s contribution to program costs would be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
